My windows are a bit more complex than just painting on top of them. There are at least 3 layers of transparency images, then glass paint and oil markers then plexi structures that either compliment the architectural elements in the image or are entirely different from the image. The multi-layering creates a very subtle hologram effect that you can see in person, almost 3D. All other surface structures are visible in the different lighting. So from one angle you see the surface structure from another an image and the lighting in the back is user-controlled for more or less dramatic effect.
