This mixed media work is a combination of silkscreen prints, that have been collaged onto a watercolor and tempera painting. The support is extremely heavy-weight acid-free art paper. The images are of Rembrandt and a Man with a Hat. The Man with a Hat is just my own personal "Man" icon, or symbol of Man, (but was actually a male model from the Art Students League named Noel in 1981). The man was an artist who at the time lived out of his car and modeled at the ASL for cash. This story of the poor struggling NYC artist, living out of his car intrigued me, as I had already drawn several poses of him in my black sketchbook. It wasn't until many years later that I enlarged, copied and silk-screened the image from the sketchbook onto many of my drawings of that time. I changed that painting of this man several times, eventually settling on a "Dots" scheme and called it "Dot Man". This drawing of his head, was originally done with an ink pens, and by swirling it around and around in small circular movements to create the image. The circular movements were in contrast to the dots which I had been also experimenting with at that time. I made the art you do the matting and framing, but if I may suggest, please use acid-free materials, so your artwork will be protected.
