The painting is based on an earlier painting called “Outskirts of the City” from 2002. The composition is loosely base on drawings made on site at East India DLR station, on the Aspen Way E14.

The painting also reflects notions about the city being re-inhabited by nature, a central feature of the brilliant Novel ”The Unlimited Dream Company” by J.G.Ballard.
