Austrian born Hans Bauer's work is highly informed by the outspoken feminist writer Camille Paglia's clear distinction between the Crystalline and Vegetable Aphrodite, the very real distinction between "female" and "feminine" archetypes. Bauer's darkly vivid and highly posed images have the look of 19th century high academic paintings and remind us of a recently discovered "old school" collection found in a European museum.
