Story: We were having dinner. They have been my friends for a long time and married for nearly 50 years. I was younger then. Barely out of school. I watched them from across the table. They seemed to connect with each other. You could tell they understood each other. Simple looks at each other told of this. I suppose if you spend that many years with someone that this should be expected. "So," I said, "What is the secret for staying together for nearly 50 years?" They kind of laughed but then he said, "We quit trying to change each other." "Our only expectation is that we allow each of us to be who we are." I remember thinking at the time that that was something I should write down somewhere. Like I was getting some real wisdom passed along from people who know. Well, that was 10 years ago and I'm finally writing it down... Enjoy!
