Sometimes music is serious business....lol...no, actually Claudette, I never thought upon them as less happy the the men. Just focused. At that time in my life when I painted these, playing percussive instruments required a lot of focus to maintain the rhythm, so, I suppose they reflect my personal approach to percussion??? I never thought about it. I can play and smile at the same time, now. lol.... Also, no, I have not given up watercolor. You ca see some of my latest self taught technique in the sparrow I recently uploaded. I painted that last year.
These are compelling images, particularly, from this "Winds Males" series of ideas. Can't put my finger on it. They have mystery & enigma. Of course, they clearly have primitive references, I can't avoid seeing so much of what is primitive in the modern age of repetition, abreviation, and all the coarsening effects of the digital age. These are beautiful, regardless of mediums used, or the century in which they were made. You, know, the eyes are everything, with anything. I'm drawn to these.

Nice works the couple Winds and Drums, three men and three woman, interesting idea. Beautiful repetition-rhythmic composition. There is music in this.
