This painting deals with the two Spanish "states" of Catalonia and the Basque Country which have sought administrative separation for years. It explores the depth of culture, gastronomy and character of the two regions, as well as the fragility and bureaucracy involved in centuries of separatism attempts, including the unjustified violence instituted at the hands of ETA. The jigsaw motif is used throughout to show Spain as a complex puzzle, breaking apart in places, while remaining complete in others.
