There is an actual forest fire just starting, way off in the distance, in this shot. The dead tree watching in the foreground is a ready candidate, as it is all dried out! Long gone Native Americans knew and revered this very spot and probably that old tree too, while it was still growing. This tree also produced their food - Pine Nuts. The valley way down below to the left is where an important river flows that was integral to their lives. They could also signal to each other across vast distances from up here with signal mirrors or fire, just like in the shot.
