About the artist, Mirko Bratic
Quoted from Ruthie Tucker, Executive Director, Amsterdam Whitney Gallery, Chelsea, NY
"With a magnificent sense of color and illustaration, Serbian painter Mirko Bratic imparts a brilliant type of expressionism that shows an incredible level of accomplishment. Currently living in Largo, FL, Mr. Bratic demonstrates his ability to fuse stylistic innovations stemming from Kandinsky, Picasso and Duchamp with a modern feeling of graphics, figuration, and color. The paintings are nearly frenetic with motion, yet there is a regularity and consistency in the composition that offers a sense of stability. In Mr. Bratic's paintings, the color and motion are the preeminent qualities of the work, with the emphasis on the superb brushstrokes. Abstract and yet figurative in the manner in which expressionism often is, Mr. Bratic paints images emotional in ways that are not entirely capable of explanation because there is something very powerful but personal about the paintings. That emotional transfer readily occurs to a viewer due to prevailing love with which Mr. Bratic obviously paints.
The art of Mr. Bratic strives for a sense of truth and there is a creative veracity that cannot be denied. Though their content may be mysterious, the sense of sincerity beams from the paintings. What is likewise clear is the virtuosity of painting on display. The paintings showcase Mr. Bratic's innate sense of coloration, with complementary colors blending flawlessly and also in harmony with contrasting colors. The paintings are stunning to view while also being expertly composed.
Mr. Bratic is a recent emigre to the United States, having been uprooted by the war in Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. A Serbian living in Bosnia, Mr. Bratic had to flee his homeland and everything he cared about, to move to Germany, where his painting became darker blue to the psychological and physical stress. His move to the U.S. has brought more of the joy his original painting style in Bosnia. An award-winning artist who has exhibited in Yugoslavia, Germany, and the United States, Mr. Bratic has also worked as an art teacher, department store artistic director, and designer. Mr. Bratic has said that art is miraculous in the same way as life and Mr. Bratic's paintings show this sense of care and inspiration."
