About this work:

If you've ever taken a stroll in the woods and felt like you're being watched, like the trees have eyes, chances are it's this guy.
Found in many cultures around the world, the Green Man is an ancient woodland deity primarily interpreted as a symbol of rebirth representing the cycle of growth each spring. Variously known as 'Green George', 'Jack-in-the-green' and 'John Barleycorn' (among other titles) he dates from pre-christian times, although his image is often found in churches and cathedrals. In Wicca the Green Man has often been used as a representation of the Horned God, a loose appropriation of ancient pagan gods such as the Celtic Cernunnos and the Greek Pan.
I started this piece last year but got distracted by some other project. Since someone has recently decided to buy it, I found I couldn't let it go in its unfinished state so I've had to pull out all the stops and put in the finishing touches. Sometimes it just isn't all languidly and lavishly dabbing and daubing, is it?
