Hey Vicky thnx for your comments - and about the use of grey colours - they can be a great way of creating space and almost a buffer between brighter colours and i find, if they are created out of the other colours on the palette they also help to unify the composition.... i am sure i am telling grandma how to suck eggs! cheers Frank

I sometimes moonlight in the children's library and could see your paintings in one of the books I read. Thank you dear Vickie for your friendly comment. my new style in photography is something quite different from what I was portraying before, the modern techniques given me more possibilities to develop my photography and to create my owen style which leads me to mixes my painting with different photos . You know the creating an excellent Idea is the most important for any art work and the aesthetic value comes in the second phase of construction the work. Thank you Vicki for the advice on taking photos- The angle trick and the photoshop correction works very well! I always thought my paintings looked more blotchy and washed out than they looked to the naked eye and I assumed it was the flash, but photoshop does adjust the color more towards what Im seeing with the eyes. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me with that! You are the best! Joe

Thank you for your kind words-- i have a question- how do you take pictures of your art; i find that when i use a flash my watercolors become washed out and the colors are not true, when I dont use a flash they come out rather blue and dull- yours always look so vivid! just a question if you have a moment

Thanks Vicky for the compliment, im not sure how much detail i should put into the Earring painting, it's a fine line, as I love detail but Im never sure how much to include. Thanks for the thoughts, its a conundrum for me!

Hello Vicky Thank you for the comments on the fen paintings. Thank you also for the Rackham comparison, though the 'line' of the painting is achieved using a 'sgraffito' technique rather than actual drawing with a pen or pencil.. This is where I have laid on a layer of quite liquid dark grey paint and using a variety of tools, scraped out the reed/leaf shapes from the still wet paint, back to the white priming. When the paint is dry (overnight because I use Alkyd a quick-drying oil paint), the shapes, both above the water and the reflections in the water are glazed with colour. The paintings I have here - 'Secret gardener', 'Bloodlines' and 'Tree spirit' are also painted using that technique.

Thankyou :-) I was like a spinning top that day , trying to track the light and catch it , I was standing in a horseshoe valley and there were shafts of light dancing round me and running up the mountains , several at one time , I was like a dog with two tails , so happy :-))) I probably look like a nutter in the field .
