About timsart:

I am virtually a self-taught artist. Having no formal art education, I began working with sculptor and painter Gregory Johnson in 1999. I worked with Greg directly for one day a week over three years. Greg took me from what I consider a folk artist and catapulted me to a much more accomplished artist. While I no longer study directly with Greg, I still consider him my mentor and one of my biggest cheerleaders.

Being intrigued with people, I seemed to gravitate toward portraiture and figurative work and I and joined several organizations in order to be exposed to various artist and expand my horizons. I have also been working with portrait artist Jim Schell. Jim celebrates his ninetieth birthday in 2008 and has immensely helped me with portraiture and painting from life. I have also done some study groups wit Marc Chatov, who learned a great deal from both his father and uncle, Roman and Constantine Chatov.

At this point in my artistic career, I continue to work with both Jim Schell and March Chatov. But, I’m always looking for another artist from whom I can glean more and expand my talent.
