I am a visual artist interested in gender issues and stereotypes. I incorporate my roots, which, being a Hispanic, are both culturally and socio-economically based. I do this with my use of color, stylized figures, and settings, and with my art media.
I have many different influences when creating art. Film-noir, 1950s horror B movies, and John Waters are my hugest inspirations when it comes to my campy, over-the top style. Frida Kahlo, Judy Chicago, and Georgia O’ Keefe re-affirm my feminist values. Japanese woodblock prints and Mexican murals inspire me to work in a flat style. Expressionist painters arouse my use of color for emotion. Street art, punk rock, and psychobilly inspire my bold style and beliefs. My art is a representation of harsh realities done in a very light way.
I am currently focusing my energy into more personal scenarios. I also enjoy working with found-object pieces, which are unique, economical, and a great challenge to work with.
I have been fortunate enough to be involved in many group art shows, mostly in and around the L.A. scene. I have also curated my own events to benefit charities, including Amnesty International and Jenessee, Inc. (a women's shelter.) I will graduate from Cal State Fullerton in Winter 2008. I'm currently reviewing grad schools.
