SYED IQBAL is a seniar visual artist from toronto.He lived and worked in dhaka,bangladesh prior to moving to montreal in 1994. Duringthis period he held several exhibitions,Including 4 solo shows in dhaka and 2solo shows Montreal. after moving toronto in 2002 he continued to work on his surrealistc themes and participated in the prestigious IMAGO canadian National Competition where he was selected as a finalist among 800 canadian artists---a singular recognition of his depth and talent as an arist.In 2003, he exhibited in a two person show organized under the auspces of the south asian studies program of the University of Toronto.
He also had 2 solo Exhibitions in toronto during 2006 and 2007.
Iqbal's "Tears of Nature" "Mindscape" "Our Women" "Eve" "Dalai Lama" "Blue Angel" "Third Eye" and "Memories of Laguna Beach" series completed 2000---2008 received criticl acclam, both in Bangladesh and Canada.
Through "Tears of Nature,he expressed concern with unsustainable development and irreversible loss to bio-diversity. iqbal is not an alarmist,but through his compelling projection on canvas of a world devoid of nature raises awareness. His canvases cry out to stop destruction of fprests andfarmlands and demand an urgent need for action.
His paintings from"our women" and "Eve" series done in blue, black and red acrylic on paper and canvas bring out the pain anguish of south asian women living in a society dominated by ineqiality,religious bogotry and intolerance.He brilliantly portrays of women and the social conditions that shaped them, made them or victimised them.
iqbal is also a writer and illustrator. He has written 14 publications,7 novels and 7 short story books in Bengali Language.
