Artist Statement
My artwork is about light and energy. Visually I could have chosen many ways to represent these two subjects, but I choose to illustrate them through the two motifs of the rising and setting sun. These two daily occurring phenomenons which regulate our lives, are charged with connotations of hope, life, energy and transition. The power that these two images hold over the human psyche is impressive. Few images are so universally considered beautiful, awe inspiring, and majestic.
In my work I use acrylic paint, oil paint, and various printmaking techniques in order to create my imagery. My paintings and prints are often panoramic abstractions of landscapes. They are often created spontaneously and with great frenetic energy. It is my belief that a painting’s emotive qualities are directly reflected from the manner in which it was created.
My work is influenced by counterparty painters such as Trenton Doyle Hancock, and classical masters such as Goya and Caravaggio. Their masterly use of light and creativity intrigues and inspires me to create beautiful images.
