my name is Nathaniel but people call me Nate for short. i'm an oil painter from united states,i was commissioned in 1975 by captain furlong to paint some military scenery after joining the navy. my main reason for joining in the first place was to get Europe to see all the art work i've been reading about free and when i heard that the navy was going that way i wanted go and so i went. to get the captains attention i painted his portrait without him knowing it . and when i finished i gave to him and he was so amazed that he took he off all military duties and ask me to be the ships artist and said yes. and thats whyl i went in the navy. but my passion is pastel.when i came from Europe i was surprise to see so many pastel artist working on paper which in my opinion is completely wrong, pastel has never been intended for paper, it will never let the artist be satisfied.and its not subject that fights artist its the paper.
