Ewa Mikucinska
I received my M.A. Degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, Poland in 1994. The invitation to participate in an exhibition named the “Best Diplomas of Polish Arts Schools in the years 1993-1994” was an early sign of recognition of her work. Thanks to the invitation, I exhibited my works at the National Museum in Krakow, Poland in 1995.
The same year, I was awarded 1st prize for her collection of FEMINA’s underwear for girls at the City of Lodz Annual Awards. The series attracted the customers with its vivid colors and simple and comfortable design executed in cotton knitwear. A year later I took 3rd prize at the Pret-a Porte “R1” competition in Poland.
Between 1995 and 2004, I worked primarily as a textile-wear designer in Poland and Denmark. During this period, I completed numerous and popular fashion and lingerie collections for woman, man and children. I cooperated extensively with Polish manufacturers and exporters of textile products, especially with Ortex and Saltex. The lines designed by me and manufactured by the above-mentioned companies were sold in department stores, other textile outlets and through mail catalog sales in: Germany, Frace, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, USA and Poland. Through Ortex Co., I established contacts and collaborated with well-known European catalog sales firms such as Quelle, Otto, Neckerman, Bader, Janson, and Quelle La Source and stores like Karstadt, Siso and H&M.
At the same period, I received and accomplished varied interior and graphic design commissios. Using her versatile talents, she designed office interiors and collateral for the Ortex Co.
Since 2004 I has also been involved in architectural work and detail. I designed and supervised, among other things, a complete remake of a mixed use, three –unit building in Santa Monica, California. I also designed number of mosaics and painted a mural.
I am also an active painter. My most recent mixed medium, “painting-drawing” collages use varied techniques such as: acrylic, pastel, pencil, pasted up elements and specially prepared textures. My “painting-drawings” are not only finished pieces of art; they are also further inspiration for my works on canvas. Mixed mediums, oil on canvas, acrylic, oil pastel, pastel, pencil, collage, textures on canvas, pasted up pieces of painted canvas create three dimensional impressions, which are further supplemented, combined and accented with color, an all-important element of all her works. I works, which were recently exhibited at the gallery of the Morgan-Wixson Theatre, was noted as “dark, moody abstracts with occasional touches of lighter glimmering color”.
I was participant first and third “Pico Art Walk”. I made poster, postcard and logo for first, second and third “Pico Art Walk” for Pico Improvement Organization. I made poster for Cinco de Mayo for Virginia Park. I made also magnet for Pico Improvement Organization. So, last three years I made for City of Santa Monica a lot excellent art work.
