About meadstudio:

I tend to experiment with technique a great deal in my work and it is not unusual for me to spend many hours fixing a technique gone awry. I rather enjoy this “fixing” process as many unexpected and unusual effects can be achieved by exploring the unknown. Typically my paintings are derived from the combination of two places: the observed or “real” and the subconscious. I usually begin a painting with a general concept in mind, both in terms of color and design. As the work progresses, the original idea can become lost amid the clutter of work, rework and content refinement. Sometimes, a work in progress will need to languish for weeks or months in the corner of my studio until it reveals its finished state to me; usually in the wee hours of the morning before fully waking.

The content of my work is born out of my personal life. Some of my work attempts to capture my pessimistic world view. Works such as Inherit, Meek and Last reflect this view much more apparently than other pieces.

In all works I strive for excellence in craft. I want the viewer to not only be drawn in by the overall design, color and content but also the texture and how the piece was crafted.
