Emma-Jane Corsan:

Thanks for the comment! The whole combining my love of books with art is maninly because I want to mix two elements I love. Have to say, I love the idea behind One Mans Treasure and the way you portray chintzy ornamental objects in the rest of your work really works!

About louise:

My work centers around the recreation of porcelain figurines, through the use of sculpture. By doing this I hope to reinvent the status of figurines, which are thought of as kitsch and tacky in today’s “Ikea Generation”. Some form of maternal instinct has sent me on this crusade, to reinstate the love they deserve, and what better public forum than art? Where they can be admired and revered, through my own recreations.
I choose to make sculptures that are very laborious, with intricate insides, in order to pay them the attention that has been so lacking. All the porcelain figurines I have collected (approximately 100) I have acquired through 2nd hand shops, charity shops, car boots sales and auctions. They have been forsaken from their homes in order to attain an interior utopia, a minimal décor, devoid of life and comfort. It is this I am revolting against; hiding our treasures and memories in shame, de-cluttering the “unnecessary” utensils of life. Once these small figurines were a statement of wealth and prestige, but now society frowns upon their mass produced history.
I am currently attending Middlesex University in London, in my third year now.
All prices of my work is in £ sterling, not dollars, however i cant seem to convert it!
happy browsing....
