Achieved a Bachelor of Visual Arts (1998), Graduate Diploma of Visual Arts (1999) and a Masters of Arts (By Research) 2002. All at Monash University, Gippsland campus. Have been painting since my first year at university (1996) which pretty much coincided with my discovery of Islamic art and the band The Tea Party, which established my love of Western music melded with Islamic stylings and instrumentation.
Was lucky enough to go to Egypt in Sep/Oct 2001. Amazing experience which served to reinforce my love of the desert and Islamic and Egyptian art and architecture. I took a plethora of photographs, some of which have been used as the basis for several paintings over the years.
The themes I aim to convey in my paintings are a sense of euphoria, time, the archaic, hope, melancholy, isolation, the sensual, discovery, searching and longing. I also draw much inspiration and motivation from music, creating a synaesthesia between painting and the atmosphere, textures, layers of sound and the emotional impact of music, interpreting such sonic qualities through particular placement of details within the composition, the overall composition itself, colour and tone, the size, shape and type of details/ornament and patterns used and light.
The music/bands I listen to are: Secret Chiefs 3, The Tea Party, Three Fish, Al Qaynah (Afghanistan folk metal band - very interesting), Dream Theater, VAST, Fantomas, Jane's Addiction, Faith No More, The Devin Townsend Band, Queensryche, Moonchild (a John Zorn project), The Armada, Prince of Persia video game soundtracks, film soundtracks (Spartacus, Cleopatra, The Fall of the Roman Empire, The Egyptian), Middle Eastern music, Opeth.
Currently I am represented by an art agent. I have been exhibiting my work through both solo and group shows within my local area (The Latrobe Valley, Gippsland) and in Melbourne. I have and will continue to enter work in major art prizes. I am also a secondary school teacher.
I am also deeply interested in ancient Roman history and I am currently working on a novel set in the last century of the Roman Republic. I have been working on this for the last three years (it is now around 550 pages long) and hope to have the complete 2nd draft done by end of Jan 2009.
I am also a proud husband and father of three beautiful children.

I`m just wondering why you are not putting a price for every work you have posted here. Is it because there is no buyer actually? I have never experienced a buyer asking for a price. I wonder how many of artbreakers have sold their artworks here. I am just wondering if that is the reason or maybe you are not really selling your art. In the beginning that was my feeling. A piece of art is like a child, difficult to get rid of. But later, when one has produced many, then it is good to sell. And especially if one does not have much place in the house and not much money to buy materials, it is always a blessing to sell some ... Have a good week-end and continue with your art. bethpadillo5

Hi, I like your paintings, the painterly realism of the landscapes complimented by little abstract quirks :) CXC
