i've seen several times, a scribbled out charcoal half drawing hanging on a gallery wall. a study. i love these.
but what is it that strikes the artist to frame, price it and hang it?
like i said, i love studies. i love the spontaneous lines and the rushed feel. i couldn't help but feel silly hanging a study for sale even though i love looking at them. i can't count the number of quick sketches i've thrown away. should i be keeping these?

when seeing others make work and even when i do so. certain pieces have a really nice quality to them when they are "unfinished". i too, really like this idea .
i'd say keep everything just for the hell of it, you can always throw it out later.
this guy makes an entire living off of "unfinished" diptych paintings of superheroes/villains etc....

yeah, that's a perfect example! i love that stuff. but i guess i'm not confident enough to even show my doodles and unfinished stuff to other people. usually i'll only show finished projects...or near finished. i guess i don't want people to see the work and think, "gee, i remember when that looked crappy."
maybe i'll force myself to at least post some unfinished stuff. or at least save them.
because, like i said, i really like the unfinished qualities about these. i just need to get past my own hangups.
