About emky74:

My recent body of work embraces the correlation between the attractive and the repulsive aspects of human behavior, and their contradictory results. Using current events that are of significant content, a universal connection with the viewer is developed. The expressionistic landscapes reminiscent of my native state, Wisconsin, provide narrative settings for loosely painted figures to convey the tragic stories of war, the protective attributes of family, and the deception that exists within each of our minds concerning these issues. Although these politically charged paintings avoid preaching about biased views, they offer an assemblage of human emotion generated by ambiguity and self-conscious perception.

I consider myself a blue-collar painter with vigorous brush strokes and active color, yet I also have a philosophical approach through maintaining an open dialogue with each individual painting. With additions, subtractions, and constant revisions, I use color as a major factor to become engaged in the narrative. In response to the fairly complicated and awkward lines of perspective, my shapes, and three-dimensional forms help create both movement and periods of rest. Subtle humor is used to ease the seriousness of the subject matter as the eye travels in and out of painterly passages.
