I’m a self-taught Artist, who has not had any formal training. This has never held me back: I have shown my work throughout England.
My desire to paint and create art comes from a need to express the world we live in. I see it as a way of escaping from the normal existence of life. It removes me from the normal boundaries and rules that we have to follow. When I create art, I live in a different world – a world born from my imagination. I source my ideas for my work from the world we live in (the natural and man-made) and how people live in it.
I have and continue to paint in many styles, ranging from the traditional to the abstract, although I primarily now work in a semi-abstract style. I work in acrylic paint and use many other mixed media to enhance the work. Although I mainly use canvas as the support for my work, I have always remained open to using different materials to paint on, mainly because different supports offer different effects for the work. Whatever I choose to paint, I always try to create an unrealistic (non-representational) image: I look at how I can transform the work, using unnatural colours, different textures and brush marks, unusual perspectives and allowing the accidental/experimental marks to dictate what direction the work progresses in.
My current project, for 2008 and onwards, is based around the energy and movement of the sexual act. The work starts from sketch work done with pen on paper, laying down random mark and allowing the accidental to form the human forms. Anatomical correctness is not important, only the capture of the movement and energy.
Although I paint for myself, I do undertake a limited amount of commissions per year. I usually find my own venues to show and sell my work but I’m always open to possibilities and proposals from people who are interested in showing my work or would like to undertake a joint show.
WORK FOR SALE.
All my finished paintings are for sale, with a limited amount of drawings available to purchase. If you are interested, just drop me a message and I will contact you with the price of the work you like.
I will be looking at having my works put into limited-edition prints, postcards and printed onto different gifts.
