I was born in 1938 in Roermond, The Netherlands and started my artistic career in textile art. After 15 years making and exhibiting tapestries I started following drawing- and paint-classes with several private teachers. Later on I studied “Free Art” at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem.
Since 1998 I live in Portugal, where I am inspired by the beautiful light and colours of the country.
I draw my inspiration from a wide range of themes, like flowers, butterflies, humans, water, music. I am fascinated by the details, the light, the shapes and the abstraction which I see in every subject.
To be able to scrutinise my subjects I work with (macro)photography, which is also a great passion. I paint in powerful colours, great expression and contrast, the details firmly enlarged. I also like creating abstract compositions, just moulded colours, which are completely free from the natural world, but in a certain way figurative too. Mostly I work with acrylic on canvas and add sometimes other materials for a vivid effect.
Since 1989 I exhibit regularly in Holland and Belgium, in individual as well as in collective exhibitions, and since 2008 also in Portugal.
