Hi!
Thanks for visiting my "artist page". I am a freelance watercolorist and would love to do nothing but that full time. A Georgia girl, I relocated to NC in 1999. I live with my 2 younger kids, a fiesty dalmation, 2 cats, 2 turtles and 3 fish. Life is full and busy.
I really dont remember "becoming" an artist. It's always been me. Creating is a natural thing I've been doing since I was wee little and could never see myself not drawing or painting. I believe I became an artist out of a natural desire to create. I recall the joy of mixing crayon colors together on paper when I was 5 and remember to this day the colors I used (orange & pink) and how the result made me feel...like I'd discovered something new. So it's just always been a part of me.
When I am creating I feel that I am at peace with myself and life is not so hard to handle. The world drifts away and I go to a place where time stops and life flows. I paint because I am...and I have a desire to give to others a part of me and the way I interpret life...that would not be seen otherwise.
Georgia O'Keefe expressed this desire well..."When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else."
Although I started out drawing people, faces and animals as a kid, watercolor is my favorite. With watercolor you're never sure how it's going to look when it dries. Control is difficult. Mistakes are often a good thing. Watercolors are unpredictable...much like life...and that is what I love about this medium.
I have concentrated in recent years on big floral watercolors. Portraits, seascapes, still lifes, planes, boats and buildings, life stills are also some of what I do. If you have something in mind, I will take commissions, within reason, so send me an email.
