Davide Dattola
Works in via Chiusure, Brescia. Dattola is active in the artistic field since 1995. He made his debut in the "Absolut Brera" selection, exposing next to artists such as Warhol, Armas, Britto, Echo, Haring, Kosolapov, Ruscha, Spinazzola, Watchel and others. His visual poetics aims to create a hierarchy in the perception of his work's subjects, drawing, if functional, from cartoons and comics techniques.
Since 2000 he is working to develop a polymateric pictorial technique suited for a more immediate narration of the image.
In 2002 he comes to the first shapes of a technique he chooses to call "catrargilla", from the two materials put to match: tar ("catrame") and clay ("argilla").
He sees in these two the perfect means to evoke "earthly" stories, telling his relationship with "daily" matters through the opacities and difficulties of the byblical "matter" against a rejecting background.
At the moment we can remember different and actual lines, distinct for their communication purposes:
"Fabula", defined by the presence of a black-and-white narrator and a frame in the same colours;
"Catrargilla", where the contrast between different materials recalls "archaic" symbols and suggestions, often tied to the spiritual sphere and its problems;
"Memo", developed as engravings on a clay background, aims to portray, in a style halfway between the graphic and the primitive, concepts and moments to be kept in mind, presenting them in a "mantra" fashion;
"Fixo" suggests a visual direction in the midst of chaos, a visualization sample.
