About birameart:

The Senegalese artist expresses his talent in different ways. His multitude oeuvre varies between classic painting and metal sculptures. During his studies in metal sculpturing he developed a passion for artistic concepts and scribbles which could not be realised on hard materials as metal and iron. First concepts realised in the african sand were later transferred to paper and canvas. Birame s first paintings are dominated by monochrome figurations which represent the west african lifestyle between landscape and metropolitan area.

"Each of my paintings is telling a story. What can be identified as scenes of everyday life on the first look, needs also to be visualised as a behind the scenes of cultural deepness which invites the spectator to discover the various secrets in the universe of my painted stories."

The origins are in the sand. Materials like potato bags, straw and various organic treasures. The objets trouves found on the beach form impressive reliefs which give a deepness and an original reference to the african earth. Birame made his debut as a painter in the art scene of Dakar in 2000. After six years in the region of Kaolack he left sparks and his metal tools aside to be entirely dedicated to art painting. The desire of the simple in complexity is echoed in his recent paintings - the village life and modern senegalese reality frame his work. The sujets are focusing on baobabs before sundown, traditional architecture and crafts, women preparing the millet or balancing water buckets on their heads. The motives can be seen in a new context - the urban lifestyle of the capital inspires new themes that are combined with traditional accents. The tension between nature and abstract high culture are resolved in the harmony of Birame s unique style. The african spirituality is one of his favourite topics expressed in his paintings.

"art is like the sea, sand and the sky
-wide, between dream and reality,
but its doors are wide open for everybody."
