Born in Ireland, 1960. Currently living in Spain.
'I was an only child and my parents worked long, hard hours so I never really experienced the pleasure of being read stories at bedtime. Now nobody say 'Awww!' because I was one lucky little boy. For years, I had instead the luxury of being presented each bedtime with a brand new comic book. There never were any protests as I recall because when I climbed the stairs in my pyjamas I was off on my travels to explore new worlds between those pages. It has to be this abundance of drawing, line, form, colour and story that sparked and continued to feed my early bewitchment by the image as conveyor of meaning, of sensation. From the off I was attempting to emulate this art form supported by my father's encouragement and his continuous gifts of paper, pencils, brushes, paint, crayons - anything that could make a mark. Among my father's personal effects, taken from the hospital directly after his death, we found a stiff, awkward little drawing made by my twelve year old self. I still have it.
To date, I have worked in the field of art and design for almost thirty years producing book jackets for publishing houses in the UK, illustrations for editorial, advertising, children's publishing and exhibiting my work in Ireland, the UK and Spain.
Some of the pieces shown here are commissioned works. The majority come under the umbrella term of 'fabulas' (fables) and are formed out of an interest in myths and ancient belief systems. At one time the figures and symbols they contain were as clear and legible as the logos and trademarks of today. The attempt is to create iconic images that evoke our collective memory of the archetypal characters and stories that have shaped our understanding of the world around us and the current trend of my output focuses on the traditions and mythology of Catalunya where I live and work'

Hello dear friend! Now it was your turn to surprise me with your comments after my trip :) thank you for all the generous compliments! I especially was touched by what you wrote about Fata Morgana - it was indeed the song that inspired the painting. It is a beautiful song by Litfiba, called "Fata Morgana" you can listen to it on my www.myspace/karisma770

Francis, Thank you so for your comments on my watercolors..I moved to Spain (Valencia) a couple years ago and I go around looking for special spots in little villages, like churches, "ermitas" monasteries, etc. I find these medieval buildings fascinating . Doors, windows, country roads, all of it. I think I have enough material to paint for the next 10 years. Regarding your work, it´s outstanding, excellent pieces! Best regards, Vivian

Hi again, I have just been enjoying looking at your delightful series of the Muses, you have once again successfully captured the subjects' beauty and what they signify. They are such a pleasure to look at and make me want to find out more (I am a bit rusty on mythology), wish there was a book of them! Lol ;-)

I Liked so many of your pieces I found it hard to compliment just one or two..so an overall like of everything..I like what you do..the brightness and vivacity in your palette is quite breathtaking ..but also the images you use in a way I have never seen before..and I love the story and the painting of the meditating man and 9/11. The paintings with trees also , the way they are so symmetrical and your painting of the shadows is fantastic. It feels so good to get compliments..sometimes these can inspire us to carry on when it gets tough. Good to have you as a friend, thanks.

What is it about Spain that makes people paint like this? Wow, what great colors! Living in Spain really give you an unfair advantage. Is it the sun, the weather the food, What? I have to rethink my color palette. I pushed "like it" on all your works, like a kid in an elevator.
