About Rachelspeed:
I am a Northern Ireland based photographer specialising in fine art film and digital photography. Previous studies in lens based media and graphic design, inform and influence my photographic work.
To create my art I explore my surrounding environment, the camera recording the places I discover. Places that have been abandoned and that are in a state of decay are of a particular personal interest. Using the camera to examine how these places change through deterioration and vandalism, creating a new aesthetic.
Influences on my work are Ansel Adams, Robert Rauschenberg, Paul Seawright and Victor Sloan. Themes that run through my photography are colour, pattern and the physical environment and political environment of Northern Ireland.
