Chen Qi: Your figure works are a virtual explosion of color, form and energy. The visual kinetics within are an important element that make these paintings truly yours. What I mean here is the quality of portraying the figure one way then seemingly a change of heart only to more clearly define the work to its' conclusion. By leaving the original partial depiction a resultant visual quality of the model impart a sense of movement. This is an absolutely wonderful visual strategy rarely seen except in the less formal 'study' drawings of the masters. You have interjected an intentional kinetic character as a formal sense of movement which is rarely seen in such a classical media. I look forward to seeing more of this and where it may lead…sam
