As an artist I am interested in values of light. I attempt to make paintings that evoke various moods created by atmospheric phenomena. Likewise my fascination with the Mississippi river and the landscapes of this region have made them my predominant subject matter. I find the dichotomy of these forces potent symbols that can evoke emotional and intellectual responses on many different levels.
For me the river represents both life and death, a continuum. A sunset or a remarkably beautiful sky conjures the incorporeal, a personal spirituality that is without denomination.

Hi Matthew ive just been busy , and a bit unwell but im back and bursting with ideas :-) I was feeling a bit lost for a while . Thankyou for liking my Monch and all the favourites , its a lovely thing to sign on and see . The Monch was from the trip before last , it took a long time to paint . I do have some small pictures in the US but I have no idea where . Im currently looking for a gallery that can take my big pieces , thats where my inspiration is at right now , big and alpine .

Mathew: I would say you are a member of the school of 'The Grand Landscape', not that there is such a thing, but if there were you would be a leader of such a school of painting. Your scapes have an etherial quality, perhaps even atmospheric. When you use a characteristic of the aberations particular to a glass lens of the camera, this enhances and even increase the magical quality of atmospheric light. In some ways you are the grand master of the School of the Grand Landscape...sam

Thankyou again :-) you see why i love this mountain so much , so much she shows me.
Posted Apr 1, 2008 10:17am.starbuck:
Thankyou :-) yes , you do have to go , and in a few weeks i will be there looking at that mountain and climbing it. It is the Jungfrau Alp , right next to the Monch and the Eiger of North Face fame. It is in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland , , the nearest bigish place is Interlaken . There is so much there , powerfull waterfalls cascade inside mountains full of glacial meltwater ,reachable by an internlal lift , ice caves full of carved images from the ice , in fact at the top of this mountain is an ice palace carved under the glacier . The highest cog railway in Europe goes inside the Eiger and the Monch through to the Jungfraujoch , you may just be able to see it on the pic , its on the saddle . Its a science station and observatory and you can walk out on to the glacier , One side of this mountain is summer and deep valleys , the other is the Aletschglacier , largest in Europe , complete with huskies :-) Down from here is Lauterbrunnen , valley of waterfalls and it really is , the other side , grindelwald with a full view of all the snow capped mountains , straight out of the fields. Dont worry , i will bring back photos :-) xx
