I am a figurative artist based in Oxford. I work in oils and pastels to produce commissioned portraits and figurative artwork. My exhibitions in and around Oxford include Art in Woodstock at the Iona House Gallery, Festival Oxfordshire Artweeks, Town Hall Gallery, Live Arts at St Mary's in Banbury, and the Fusion Arts Centre. My recent figurative work can be seen at the TOES Gallery (Temple Cowley), supported by the Oxford City Council.
My latest inspiration is the British landscape. I work both en plein air and in my studio. Sometimes I combine pastels with the underpainting in other media, such as acrylic paints. Due to the pastels' immediacy and brilliance, I find it an ideal media to seize the mood of a particular moment in nature and to represent this on paper or canvas. My current favourite subject is the Scottish highland landscape with its dispersed and perluscent atmosphere. It is often said that it lacks the light but it certainly has the mood!
