Abstract art - Painting for paintings sake - colors, shapes, lines, juxtaposed with a random purpose. Aggressive paint strokes against delicate organic forms - fresh paint on canvas - the first strokes create a raw edge.

Do the opposite of what I was taught - paint like a child – don’t think. Paint "ugly", mix pigments, paint wet on wet, paint dry, put direction in corners going away from the canvas, create imbalance. Within these spontaneous parameters a natural balance occurs.

Intense, bold, thought provoking, raw, complex - the paint speaks for itself, using its own language. The physical reality of my painting is about exploring the fundamental process of creating, returning to the act of creating with no preconceptions. Manipulating canvas, creating and destroying forms, spontaneously flowing with and against all direction - color, texture, shape, and the gestural brush strokes of each motion bring context to chaos.

The concept driving the current work is the rejection of preconceived artistic concept. Creation is spontaneous and expressed through use of classic technique and at the same time in spite of traditional teachings. As with great improvisational art, context is rejected and at once generated in and of each work’s unique character.
