Hello
My name is David S. Clayton.
Ever since childhood I loved to draw. Constant distractions and missteps kept me away any formal training in art, so my work is purely self taught. The body of my early works are in large scale, intensely detailed drawings. I never had any need for colour. That all changed in the late nineties, when I felt that pencil and black and white had run it's course. I acquired some discarded 48x48 panel boards (having never worked on canvas), an acrylic starter kit and "attacked" them with colour. The process was so liberating, I came to call these early adventures my Freedom Paintings. Gradually I began to refine my technique and move towards a finer style of painting (an ongoing process).
I do not have any particular style or genre. I move from fantasy/surreal, realism, portrait and abstract. Whatever mood I seem to be in.
I'm currently working with the airbrush. I do not intend it to be my primary medium, but it is a good resourse, and certainly a challenge to master.
