About Bartokart:

I am a Japanese artist who uses Italian enameled tiles as the medium for my work. I create the designs in Japan and then send them to Italy where the tiles are handmade and hand painted.

In my work I try to capture the natural essence of people and things, I draw from my Japanese culture and heritage but also try to maintain the traditional Mediterranean essence of the art form.

The laggioni technique, ancient to much of the region gives the enameled terracotta tiles the unique characteristic of being hard yet seeming soft. Each colour develops a distinct texture that when felt, gives the art piece a whole other dimension.

I am honored to be able to share my creations with you. Please take your time, browse my collection and experience these tile murals. My work only represents the tip of the iceberg for such a complex art form with such a rich history. I hope you enjoy what you see.
