About Balcells:
I paint people not only to show figures, faces, volume, light and shadow, but also to show what's beyond form, unseen yet still there: a mood, a feeling, an essence, the soul... all of this through the filter of my own perception and ability to translate it to the canvas. Thus, the final result is a mixture of contributions from the model, the artist, as well as the viewer who completes the work with his or her own perception.
